| Wyeth Philippines Success Story |
 |
 |
Wyeth Philippines is a dynamic organization that currently employs more than 700 people in its local operations.
The Wyeth story began in 1860 when brothers John and Frank Wyeth opened a drugstore in Walnut Street, Philadelphia. Then in 1932, the brothers sold their business to American Home Products Corporation of New York (AHP). On March 11, 2002, AHP changed its name to Wyeth to reflect its vision of becoming the world leader in research-driven pharmaceuticals.
In 1958, AHP collaborated with A.T. Suaco and Co. to establish the first Filipino-American joint venture in the pharmaceutical industry. That operation started inside a single story building along Rizal Avenue. Eventually Wyeth-Suaco Laboratories, Inc. (Wyeth-Suaco) built its first nutritionals plant in 1964 along Chino Roces Avenue in Makati which today houses the main office of Wyeth Philippines Inc.
Wyeth-Suaco launched S-26 in 1965 and BONNA in 1969. In 1986 the company introduced PROMIL and then PROMIL GOLD. Through these brands, Wyeth has provided an important option for the nutrition of children in the Philippines after weaning.
In 1990, Wyeth-Suaco began the construction of its nutritionals plant in Canlubang, Laguna to meet the growing demand for its products. The Canlubang plant became fully operational in 1992. The following year in 1993, Wyeth-Suaco changed its name to Wyeth Philippines, Incorporated (WPI), to reflect a change in the ownership of the Philippine affiliate.
Wyeth is also a major contributor to the health of people in the Philippines through its ethical pharmaceuticals. TAZOCIN is a widely prescribed injectable-antibiotic for the treatment of severe, life threatening infections like hospital- acquired pneumonia and serious intra-abdominal infections. PREVENAR has provided protection to thousands of newborns and young children against pneumonia, bacteremia and meningitis across the world. ENBREL has emerged as a leading biologic that has provided relief to patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis.
This tradition also continues at Wyeth Consumer Healthcare. This division markets the country's leading over-the-counter health care products such as CENTRUM, ADVIL, CALTRATE, CLUSIVOL, LOVISCOL, STRESSTABS, DIMETAPP, CHAPSTICK, and INCREMIN.
The Canlubang plant expansion involving the addition of a 3rd dryer increases the capacity of WPI to produce powdered milk formulas by as much as 70%. The expansion allows WPI to serve the increasing demand of its consumers.
WPI is proud of the dedication of its people and of the superior quality of its brands.
Today, WPI employs more than 700 people and belongs to the top 100 Philippine corporations. The mission of WPI is to improve healthcare in the country.
